The 2011 Spring Sensation Sale was a resounding success with a sale average of $6,221 on 102 full Holstein lots. As in the past sale offerings at Oakfield Corners, the pedigrees read like who’s who, the show prospects were plentiful as were the genomic giants.

Lot 1 was also the top priced animal in the event at $41,000 and was struck of to Genisis Cooperative Herd, Shawano, WI. Oakfield Blue Lagoon-ET +2372 GTPI. Lagoon is a CO-OP O-Style Oman Just-ET and his #1 GTPI daughter. She is out of Oakfield Encino Britley (VG-86, 2y) 50k GTPI +2074 that has several sons in AI and embryos exported.

Second high of the sale was from one of the most exciting show ring bloodlines of the breed. Pierstein Dundee Rosabel-ET is a 12/08 Dundee that is due soon to Palermo. Her dam is the 2008 WDE and Royal Winter Fair Supreme Champion Thrulane James Rose (2E-97). She was struck of to Jonathan Pinkerton of Frenchtown, NJ for $31,000.

Bringing the third high of the event was Miss OCD Robust Deja Vu-ET for $20,500 from Ransom Rail Farm, Perry, NY.  Dej Vu-ET‘s 50K test reads +2407 GTPI. She is Robust daughter out of OCD Planet Danica-ET that has sons in AI and embryos exported. The next dam is Miss Elegant Delight-ET (VG-88), a granddaughter of Windsor Manor Rud Zip (4E-95).

The sale was managed by the Cattle Exchange with David Rama handling the gavel and Horace Backus making pedigree announcements. The Elm Park Farm Complete Dispersal held on Saturday, April 30^th, 2011 in Sheboygan Falls WI saw 166 lots average $3,253.00. Over 300 people packed the tent on a terribly windy day requiring extraordinary measures to keep the tent in place! The sale was managed by The Cattle Exchange of Delhi, NY.

Sale Average: $2,224.55 on 99 Full Lots! The sale was well attended with buyers from all over the Northeast participating. Cattle sold to NY, PA, NJ, CT, MD, and VT.

Topping the sale was Lot 28 for $4,950. This VG-86 Zenith sold fresh & backed by 5 Excellent dams. She sold to Promise Haven Farm, Ulster, PA. Tied for second high were Lots 1 & 67. Lot 67 was a first choice female by Atwood from a Sanchez daughter of the great EX-91 Duplex Rayna, the breeds highest scored 15th Generation Excellent. She sold to Craig Bauermaster of Somerset, PA for $4,100. Lot 1 sold to Lismore Dairy sired by Shottle from an Excellent Durham out of an Excellent 91 Storm from 2E-94 Chief Adeen. Fourth high, Lot 23, sold for $4,000. to Richard & Debra Shuman of Bloomsburg, PA. A daughter of Goldwyn & potential 8th Generation Excellent from the Roxies, she sold bred to Goldwyn Guthrie due in November.

The sale was managed by Stonehurst Farm and The Cattle Exchange. Dave Rama handled auctioneering duties, Horace Backus presented pedigrees, while Don Welk, Nick Raggi, Dave Bitler and Dan Brandt accepted bids. There were numerous bids handled by the sale staff via cell phones all day.

Ideal Holsteins Complete Dispersal held on Saturday, April 16th in Centre Hall, PA attracted a massive crowd on an absolutely miserable rain soaked day.  The tent was overflowing with more than 300 in attendance. 159 full lots averaged $2,050.00 and bidding was brisk all day.  Topping the sale @ $5,300.00 was lot 29, a daughter of KHW Elm Park Acme-ET.  Milking 96 pounds, she was backed by a GP-84 dam by Roy and she sold to Robert Hostetler of Belleville, PA.  Second high was lot 82, a daughter of Stanhope Sovereign scored EX-90 working on her third calf and bred to Dundee.  She sold for $4,300.00 to Mark Hough of Rebersburg, PA.  Another daughter of Elm Park Acme, lot 152 sold for $3,450.00 to Thomas Hartle, fresh w/2nd calf & was third high of the sale. 

The Ideal herd boasted a herd average over 29,000M and BAA 107.9%.  The Acme daughters looked tremendous all day and bidding from the packed rain soaked tent was fierce.  The sale staff included Rama & Backus in the box, Welk, Raggi, Pullis, Brandt, Bitler and Stoltzfus taking bids.  The fitters and tent crew performed masterfully in beastly weather conditions.  Over three inches of rain, high brisk winds all day and the crew never missed a beat.

The Tanis family held a special dinner the evening before the sale for family, sale staff and friends & it was a first class feast.  We salute Jake, Sallianne and their family for the tremendous positive impact they have had on the Holstein industry.  Penn State graduates that worked for Ideal in the past turned out in full force for moral support as well as a piece of Ideal herd. 

The market is gaining strength!  Many short breds sold for $1,500. to $1,650.00 and March calves were almost all over $1,000.00!

30th Cobleskill Dairy Fashion Sale A Rousing Success

The Cobleskill Dairy fashion Sale held on Saturday, April 2nd at SUNY Cobleskill in NY was a tremendous success.  The annual sale was hosted by the SUNY Cobleskill Dairy Club and students selected and prepared the cattle for the sale.  A huge crowd was on hand to witness 83 full lots average $2,648.00 with all six dairy breeds represented at the sale.

In addition to the usual offering of Holsteins, the sale featured one lot from other prominent dairy breeds.  Lot 1A was an Oblique daughter born December 2010 from the Unanimous All-Am Sr 3yr old Ayrshire ’09.  She sold for $4,000.00 to Gene Hall from Oklahoma.  Lot 1B was a Sept. 2010 Secret daughter from the All-Am Aged Swiss in 2007.  She sold for $6,600.00 to Shawn Young of VT and was consigned by Main & Vail.  Lot 1J was a Hired Gun daughter born 4/7/10 from a VG-88 daughter of the great “Veronica” a living legend in the Jersey breed!  She sold for $5,150.00 to Sarah McDowell of MD.  Lot 1M represented the Milking Short Horn breed and sold for $2,900.00 to Ron Andrews of, PA.  She was consigned by Gerald Merrill and sold milking 78lbs & she was Nominated All-Am Fall Calf in 2009.

Sale Chairperson, Liz Trombley handled her duties masterfully and the dairy club is to be commended for an outstanding job all around.  The sale was managed by The Cattle Exchange with David Rama handling auctioneer duties and Horace Backus presenting pedigrees.  Dan Brandt, Duane Conant, Jamie Black, Dr. John Tryon & Dr. Ronnie Thomas accepted bids from the crowd and worked the phones. 

Just fifteen cows and bred heifers were offered in the sale with the other sixty eight lots being calves or yearlings.  Congratulations to SUNY Cobleskill students on a job well done!

The NY ET Convention Sale held on Thursday, January 13^th started off with a bang as Lot 1 sold for $20,000.  Consigned by Maple Downs, Heath and Cooper, this pick of Snowman’s from a VG-89 Shottle sold to Todd Galton of Nunda, NY.  In all, 30 full lots averaged $8,097.00 with a total gross of $265,650.00 for the evening, making this the highest averaging Convention Sale of All-Time.

Rick Verbeek, Dan Brandt, Ray LeBlanc, Patsy Gifford and Jason Pullis handled numerous phone bids as well as catching bids from the crowd.  The team of Dave Rama and Horace Backus handled the gavel and pedigrees respectively.  Merry Rama clerked the sale and handled several phone bids including Lot 6, selling for $51,000.00 to Arethusa Farm.  This sensational Domain daughter consigned by King and Emerling came out with a GTPI +2366, one of the highest in the breed!

Thirteen lots sold for $6000.00 or higher.  The high embryos of the night (Lot 36A) sold for $800 ea.  Sired by Snowman from a VG-88 Goldwyn.  They were consigned by Welcome Stock Farm and purchased by Coyne Farms, Avon, NY.

Sexing Technologies procured some fabulous individuals including Lot 5, a Planet daughter consigned by Matt Steiner of Ohio from the world famous Missy family. Sexing Technologies also purchased Lot 7 for $20,000.00 consigned by Welcome Stock Farm.  These were a choice of 4 Observer daughters from a VG-86 Shottle with GTPI’S ranging from 2129 to 2302.  In addition, they purchased lots 8 and 23.

A large, enthusiastic crowd attended the Hubland Farm Dispersal held on Friday, November 5^th in Intercourse, PA and saw 95 full lots sell for an average of $1,721.  John and Martha Hubschmidt of Bridgeton, NJ have been tremendous supporters on NJ Holsteins for years and are a 24 time PBR winner!  The NJ contingency came out in force and plowed away on many of the fine cows and bred heifers offered in this sale as well as the local Lancaster County market.

At the start of the sale, John said he had tried to sell his herd privately for sometime but all the potential buyers had indicated they were not interested in any cows over 2 lactations.  He advised the buyers at the sale, the good older cows still had lots of life and his speech was well accepted with many cows over 5 years of age selling for $1,500. to $2,000.

Alvin String of Harrisonville, NJ was the volume buyer of the day, selecting a super set of young cows that will please him for a long time.   Don Welk, Russ George, Bob Landis & Harold Welk accepted bids while Horace Backus and Dave Rama worked the box.

The Vision-Gen & Partners Elite Offering held on Friday, October 29^th in Intercourse, PA was well received with 143 full lots averaging $3,452.10 for a total gross of $500,225.00.  Over 200 people attended on a beautiful Lancaster County day.

The first two lots in the ring were 14 & 15, two full sisters sired by Superstition with lot 14 having a GTPI +2196 and Lot 15 a GTPI +2246.  Their dam, an Excellent Goldwyn from the Barbie family also sold ($6,500.00 to Ben Shelton, NC).  Select Sires placed the winning bid of $25,500.00 and chose lot 15.  Lot 14 was quickly put up again and commanded the third high price of the day at $18,000.00 selling to Dennis Wolff of Millville, PA.  Lot 62, a really fancy Shottle daughter born May, 2010 carried a GTPI +2380 and sold for $19,500.00 to Bill & Tim Rauen, Tom & Rick Simon and Mark Butz of Farley, IA.  The dam was an unscored daughter of Goldwyn from an EX-91 Outside and the second dam was Chief Adeen!  The dam sold for $8,900.00 to Mike Heath, Purple Fever, Steve Morrill and Gerbaten Acres of Lowville, NY. 

Rock Hill Dairy of NM, batted away all day on tremendous cattle and procured lot 29, a very fancy Atwood daughter born April, 2010 with a GTPI +2118 for $16,000.00.  Her dam is an EX-90 Shottle daughter of the great Lila Z!  In all, Rock Hill took home 30 head and they were special!  Keep on eye on Rock Hill Dairy, they are buying the great ones! 

Lot 14, a February, 2010 daughter of Man o Man sold for $14,000.00 to Carlyle Westendorp of Nashville, MI.  Her dam is EX-92 Goldwyn Wistful!  Ben Shelton and Arlin Buttke from North Carolina sat front and center and cherry picked some tremendous fresh cows and fancy heifers all day!  It was a sensational offering and the cattle all found new homes that should please all the buyers!

In all, cattle sold to 12 different states plus England and Canada.  Fifty head commanded a price of $3,000.00 or more! It was great to see some friends from California including Gil Teixeira who took home 4 head!  We wish Gil and Linda our very best!

Congratulations to Corey Wolff of Vision Genetics for breeding such a tremendous selection of high Genomic cattle with phenomenal pedigrees!  The sale staff was magnificent handling bids from across the country and at the sale facility, including; Les Terpstra, Rick Verbeek, Ray LeBlanc, Mike Weimer, Tom Harkenrider, Nick Raggi, Dan Brandt, Horace Backus, Tim Rauen, Bob Landis, Amy Savage, Don Welk and David Rama.  The fitting crew headed by Jason Thomas had the cattle looking superb as always!

The annual NY Holstein Harvest Sale held on Saturday, October 23^rd at the Cornell Livestock Pavilion drew a massive crowd.  When the dust settled, the sale averaged $3,212.73 on 110 full lots with a gross sale of $361,350.  Cattle sold to ten states.

Sale topper was lot 15 from Marshman Farms, a Red, Polled daughter of Destry from an unscored Lawn Boy dam that looks great and has sons already contracted for AI.  The Destry heifer came in with a GTPI +2122 & the bidding was brisk ending at $36,500.  Buyers were Liz Partners c/o Faus Family of Rock Stream, NY, Ken Riehl and Durrell Martin.  Contender was ABS/St. Jacobs with many additional players over $30,000.  Second high was lot 9 from Clear Echo, a VG-85 Ramos daughter with loads of contract interest and a GTPI +2012.  The final bidder was Dr. Barry England of PA.  Carlton Bull of West Chazy, the contender of lot 9 was the final bidder of lot 36 selling for $11,000.  She was a real flashy Superstition daughter with a GTPI of +2150 carrying contract interest!

Thirty-Three head sold for $3,000. or more in the sale!  No doubt, genomics carried the day on prices.  The great, deep pedigrees appear to be worth the money these days and everyone looking to make an investment should consider the tremendous foundation pedigrees being offered.  They have never been more affordable!

Sale staff included; Horace Backus, Don Welk, Patsy Gifford, Jason Pullis, Rick Verbeek, Tom Harkenrider, Dave Rama.  The cattle were well prepared by the Cornell University Dairy Club and the students and faculty of Cornell are to be congratulated for another job well done.

The Pooledale Holstein Complete Dispersal held on Friday, October 22^nd was a resounding success.  The sale averaged right at $1,494 on 101 lots for mature cows down to four month old calves.  This grazing herd with just over a 17,500 pound herd average had many sired by homebred sires by Linjet, Durham, Dundee and Redmarker.  They were strong cattle with great udders and many were bred for spring calving.

With a sharp, cold, wind blowing in from the west and snow starting to fall for the first time this season, the crowd stayed securely under the heated tent to see this lovely udder herd disperse.  Topping the sale at $3,750 was a beautiful VG-88 daughter of Dundee.  Fresh for the third time, she looked destined to be EX next score.  Stonehurst Farm was agent for the purchase.  Ten head sold for $2,000. or more with many cattle heading to North Carolina and Pennsylvania as well as a strong contingency of NY buyers.  Recently born September calves were in demand with most bringing $900 to $1,200.

A huge, enthusiastic, crowd attended the Walnut Lane Farm Complete Dispersal on Friday, October 15^th.  The sale began with the farm equipment and prices were strong just like the wind, all day! 

The sale tent was packed & the bidding was brisk from start to finish.  The Holstein herd of 122 head averaged $1,663.00 consisting of milking cows, bred heifers, yearlings and calves.  Topping the sale at $3,800 was lot 45, a Red Destry heifer born April 10, 2010 w/PTPI +1911.  She sold to Michael Allen of Gen-Toctin Farm, Jefferson, MD.  Her VG-85 Rampage dam (Lot 44) was second high at $3,750. selling to Delvin Halteman of Quarryville, PA.  Third high was Lot 1, a VG Shottle with loads of potential.  She sold to Ron Statler II of Greencastle, PA for $3,500.  Eldon Rudolph of Chambersburg, PA picked off Lot 5, a straight daughter of Advent due in March from an EX-90 Outside dam from the Pala family for $3,000.  Twenty Three head sold for $2,000. or more.  Harry Bachman, Don Welk, Horace Backus, Dan Brandt all assisted with the auction and handled their duties masterfully.  Merry Rama & Amber Newman handled the clerking for the day with over 250 bidder numbers issued sale day.

We congratulate Rodney, Darlene, Emily & Tobin for a tremendous sale and the quality of life they have led.  This family has participated in state and local shows for years, been active in both the Holstein and Guernsey Associations and great supporters of their local community.  Having sold the farm, we wish them the very best in their new endeavors.

The family of Steve and Trish Rohe in Syracuse, NY dispersed their outstanding Holstein herd on Saturday, October 9^th.  A large & enthusiastic crowd gathered on a beautiful sunny day on Onondaga Hill to see this tremendous herd sell!  When the day was over 128 lots consisting of cows, heifers and calves averaged $1,771.

Cows were the strength of the day with Lot 86, an EX-90 Best daughter topping the sale at $5,600. bred to Shottle and selling to Lantland Farms of Horseheads, NY.  Gordon Wood from PA was contender and was a major player all day buying 17 head of outstanding young cows!  Second high for the day was Lot 29, an EX-92 Durham at $5,100. selling to Roger Schug of Ohio.  With a tremendous frame & udder and an EX-90 Rudolph dam, Roger says she is one of the finest cows he has ever owned!  She sold fresh in December and on service.  Thirty Five head sold for $2,000 or higher with cattle selling to five states and two provinces in Canada.

Horace Backus, Don Welk, Larry Hill, Jason Pullis and Patsy Gifford all assisted sale day and performed brilliantly!  The tent was packed, the chairs were full and many friends of the Rohe family assisted sale day.

The Morrisville Autumn Review Sale held September 11, 2010 averaged $2,242.93 on 92 full lots.  A moment of silence was observed for victims of 9/11 at the start of the sale on a beautiful sunny day with an overflowing crowd in attendance.  Beth Keene handled selections for the sale and what a super line up it was!

Topping the sale was Lot 2, a stylish daughter of the great Dur Chan, consigned by Kingstead & Mercuro and purchased by Brad Murphy of Parish, NY for $7,200.  Tied for second high was Lot 30, an extremely fancy Goldwyn daughter born 12-3-09 from a VG-87 Linjet from the Royal Rosa Family & she is a potential fifteenth generation excellent.  Also selling at $5,200 was Lot 43, another fancy Goldwyn born 12-13-09 from the excellent 92 Starbuck daughter of the immortal Dellia!  She sold to one of the great cow men in NY, Mike Putman and was consigned by Erinwood and Mercuro.  The fancy deep pedigreed heifers were in demand all day.

Horace Backus handled the pedigrees duties while Don Welk worked the ring along with Jason Pullis, Duane Conant and students Edwin Moran and Brett Myles.  The students did a magnificent job in preparing the cattle for the sale, clipped to perfection and every detail in order.  The sale was co-chaired by Katy Kemmeren and Courtney Supa and overseen by faculty member Beth Keene.  Special thanks to Jason Pullis of The Cattle Exchange for all has assistance handling paperwork, sale order and organizational details!

A large crowd attended The Kingsmill Fall Classic Held on September 9^th in Intercourse, PA.  157 head graced the shavings and when the dust settled they averaged 2,533.12 with over 100 head selling under 15 months of age.  There was spirited bidding throughout the sale with cattle heading to 14 states.  A number of people viewed the sale on line as well, and over 160 buyer numbers were issued sale day.

The sale was co-managed by The Cattle Exchange & Stonehurst Farm with a tremendous sale staff including Les Terpstra, Nick Raggi, Scott Culbertson, Dave Lentz, Russ George, Harry Bachman and of course the living legend and master at pedigrees, Horace Backus.  The fitting crew spear headed by Jason Thomas had the cattle looking fantastic.

Congratulations to Mr. David Falk, Mitch Hockett and the Kingsmill staff for presenting such a fine array of Holstein genetics and to Adam Liddle of Liddleholme Holsteins who also participated as a consignor with 25 head!

Throw in a beautiful day, a packed tent and some highly tested Genomic Holsteins and you could have a very successful sale just like the All-Riehl Sale, owned by Ken and Vivian Riehl and family held on August 20, 2010 in Himrod, NY.  The sale averaged $2,764 on 103 full lots.

Topping the sale at $20,000. was lot 5, sired by Dorcy with a GTPI +2239, she sold to TAW of Dryden, NY carrying contracts from virtually every AI unit in North America.  Her dam is a VG Toystory w/1113F & grdam 3E-91-GMD-DOM Outside!  Second high selling for $14,500 was lot 9 sired by Malicieux with a high GTPI and carrying a $7,000. AI contract from Genex.  Cut right, she had many other AI units ready to talk business with the new owner, Oakfield Corners Dairy.  Sixteen head sold for $5,000. or above.  Lot 10 and lot 55 each sold for $9,500.  Lot ten, sired by Leif, sold to Oakfield Corners Farm and lot ten, sired by Planet, sold to Sexing Technologies.  Both carried major AI contracts.

Topping the sale at $20,000 was Ridgedale Avaree-ET, an Advent daughter of Ridgedale Ava-ET (EX-92) who was just fresh on November 2nd. Avaree’s dam is the well-known tanbark favorite who was most recently 1st Sr. 3-year-old at the Premier National Junior Show in 2009; a repeat title as she was the winning fall calf at the 2006 Premier National Junior Show. Ava was also the HM Jr. All-American Fall Yearling in 2007. Her dam is Amlaird Lee Amy-ET (2E-92), an own daughter of Ms Kingstead Chief Adeen-ET (2E-94 DOM). Adam Liddle of Argyle, NY, purchased this fancy young 2-year-old, while Todd Galton of Nunda, NY, was contender. The second high seller at $17,500 was Ridgedale Rasia-Red, a 3/09 Redwood from Ridgedale-T Raichu-Red (EX-91), the Res. Jr. All-American R&W Sr. 3-Year-Old in 2008. Raichu was also the Grand Champion of the New York R&W Spring Youth Show and is a maternal sister to Ridgedale-T Refresh. The next dam is Ridgedale-T Rehema-Red (2E-93) followed by 7 more VG and EX dams to Roxy herself.

Thunder Valley Farm Complete Dispersal of Cattle & Equipment. A large crowd attended both days of the auction and prices were strong both days. 480 cows sold the first day averaged right at $1,350.00 and 364 heifers the next day averaged right at $1,260. Short bred heifers were selling for $1,700 to $1,900 and heifers ready to breed or on service ran from $1,375 to $1,500. Cattle sold to several states including PA, MD, NY, VT, TX, OH, NJ, VA. Equipment selling on day 2 was well received with major attendance on hand.

Pintail Point Complete Dispersal The large crowd that ventured to The Pintail Point Dispersal in Queenstown, MD, was not disappointed by the quality herd that were a tribute to owner Louis Schaefer and herd managers Doug & Joan Seidel. Cattle were sold to seven states and the volume buyer was Mike Garrow, who selected seven head to join his herd in Chateaugay, New York. A total of 17 lots sold for $5000 or more. The top selling animal was struck off to Jim High & Rusty Herr of Oxford, PA. They selected Dirigo-Conant Regan-ET (EX-93 EX-MS) for $20,500. Regan is a 10/03 Silky Cousteau that freshened in October and is out of one of New England’s high profile brood cows, Brigeen-C Integrit Robin-ET (2E-95 DOM). Thus, Regan traces back to Queen of the Breed, Roxy. Roxy’s blood ran through the second high animal of the sale as well. A fancy 3/08 Baxter daughter commanded the price of $12,500 from Jeff Woods, Madison, WI. Pintail-Point B Rhonda is a daughter of the Goldwyn, Pintail-Point R Goldie (VG-87 2y). R Goldie’s dam is an EX Durham sister to Brigeen Skychief Roxy (EX-93). Woods also added R Goldie to his ownership for $9,000. Heading Mike Garrow’s list was the 3rd high animal of the day, Pintail-Point Rudy *RC (VG-86, 2y), a Sepetmber Storm daughter of the high selling cow Dirago Conant Regan (EX-93). Rudy sold due 4/27 to Advent for $11,700. The quest for Red continued as Lee Emerson of Middletown, DE, paid $11,200 to own Greenlea SS Caress-Red-ET (VG-88, 2y EX-MS). Caress is due 4/13 to Advent for another run at an All-American R&W nomination. Her dam is the multi-award winner, Yursden Kite Caramac-Red (EX-92).

The finest cows on the farm fetched $1,800.00 to $2,350. Three quartered cows or blemished cows sold for $850.00 to $1,200.00.

Vision Genetics Select Sale - held Saturday, November 19th at Millville, PA will go down in the history books as one of the greatest Holstein herd sales ever held. Owner, Corey Wolff was extremely pleased with the outcome with buyers from coast to coast attending the sale. 224 total lots including embryos, half lots and grades totaled $956,900.00 on the day and the average on 185 full lots of registered cattle was an amazing $4,811.90. Cattle sold to sixteen states. .

TyHill Holsteins Milking Herd Dispersal This well-bred and uniform herd featured dairy quality, great frames and sound, attractive udders, with 85 head averaging $2802. With a 107% BAA and a herd average at 893 fat, this group represented 40 years of work by the Tylers, who are keeping their heifers and planning to build back in the months ahead.
The lovely high seller was a just fresh 2-yr-old by Stouder Morty from the heart of the Comestar Laurie Sheik family.
